Brentwood has leafy roads, woodland and farmland close by, and that is part of why carpet beetles are around. They live outdoors in nests and plant debris, and in warmer months the adults drift into houses. When they lay eggs indoors, the larvae begin working on wool, fur and other natural materials, usually somewhere dark.
We find out where they are living, deal with them and help you protect your home from a repeat, whether it is a flat, a semi or a larger family house. You will get plain advice, not jargon.

The adults are small, round and spotted, and you may notice them on windowsills in spring and summer. The larvae are what cause the harm. They are brown, bristly and shy of light, and they leave shed skins behind as they grow, which is often the first thing people actually find when they go looking for the cause of a hole in a jumper or carpet.
Check the edges of carpets, the stair carpet, the gaps under sofas, the backs of wardrobes and any stored woollens. In a busy Brentwood commuter household, where rooms may be empty all day, small holes can go unnoticed for months, so a quick look at the end of each season is a good habit to build. Woodland and gardens nearby mean beetles and pollen are never far away in summer.

Vacuuming helps, but it rarely removes every larva or egg. That is why we inspect first. In Brentwood we often look at lofts and roof spaces as well as living areas, because old nests of insects or other creatures can feed a steady stream of larvae down into the rooms below, however often the carpets are cleaned. We will check there as well if you can give us safe access.
Where we find activity, we use a targeted treatment, then talk you through hot washing, freezing small items and sealed storage, so your clothes and rugs are protected once we have gone. We cover CM13 to CM15, and we also cover Billericay, Epping and Basildon if you are nearer one of those, so just let us know where you are and we will sort out a time.
Rugs, wool coats, cashmere and heirloom textiles in Brentwood homes deserve extra care. Clean them before storage, use sealed bags or boxes, and check them every few months. If something is already affected, we can advise whether it can be salvaged. Treatment reduces the pest, but good storage is what keeps your belongings safe in the long run.
We cover towns and villages across Essex. Choose your area to see how carpet beetle control works locally.

Carpet beetle damage is often found before the insects are, so knowing what small holes, shed skins and thinning patches mean helps you act early.

Once carpet beetles have been dealt with, steady cleaning habits, tidy storage and a few small repairs make it much harder for them to settle again.

Most household pests leave clues behind, and learning to read droppings, damage, noises and timing will help you decide what you are dealing with and what to do next.
Read the guide →Adult beetles emerge in spring and head for light, which is why they collect on windowsills. They also feed on pollen outdoors and can fly in through open windows. Finding them is a sign to check carpets and wardrobes for larvae.
Sprays may kill the odd insect, but they rarely reach larvae hidden under furniture or in lofts. The key is finding the source. We can inspect and treat safely, and we will also tell you which jobs you can do yourself, like washing and vacuuming.
Many people notice fewer beetles and no fresh damage within a few weeks, but it depends on how widespread the problem is and how thoroughly the cleaning is done. We will explain what to look out for and when to get in touch with us again.
