Carpet beetles are easy to miss until the damage shows. In Basildon we are called out for chewed carpet edges, holes in woollen jumpers and small bristly larvae turning up under furniture. The beetles themselves are tiny, so the first clue is usually what they have eaten rather than the insect, and by then they may have been working for months.
We inspect to find where the problem started, treat the affected areas and show you how to stop it coming back. We cover houses, flats and commercial units across the whole town, and we explain everything in plain terms.

The adults are small and often found on windowsills in spring and summer, trying to get outdoors. The real damage is done by the larvae, which are brown, bristly and slow moving. They feed on wool, fur, feathers, silk, leather and even dried food, so carpets, rugs, coats and wardrobes are all at risk, as is anything made of natural fibre, including some upholstery and the felt under certain furniture.
Look for shed larval skins, which look like tiny hollow husks, and for bare patches along carpet edges. Check under sofas, along skirting boards and inside airing cupboards and the backs of wardrobes. In a large town like Basildon, with so many family homes and flats side by side, we often see it spreading quietly from one room to the next before anyone notices anything wrong.

We start with an inspection, because treating the carpet alone rarely solves anything. Larvae can live in an old nest in the loft, in a pile of pet hair behind a radiator, or in a bag of forgotten woollens at the back of a wardrobe. Finding that source is the most important part of the job, and it tells us how far things have spread.
Once we know where they are, we apply a targeted treatment to the affected areas and talk you through vacuuming, hot washing and sealed storage for your textiles. Our work covers the Basildon area, SS13 to SS16, and we also cover Billericay, Wickford and Canvey Island if you live on the edge of town. We agree the plan with you before we start.
Basildon has plenty of industrial estates and commercial units, and carpet beetles can turn up in offices, storage rooms and anywhere natural fibres or dried goods are kept. We inspect the whole space, treat what we find and advise on housekeeping so the problem is less likely to be repeated. Treatment reduces the numbers and helps stop them returning, though regular cleaning matters just as much.
We cover towns and villages across Essex. Choose your area to see how carpet beetle control works locally.

Carpet beetle damage is often found before the insects are, so knowing what small holes, shed skins and thinning patches mean helps you act early.

Once carpet beetles have been dealt with, steady cleaning habits, tidy storage and a few small repairs make it much harder for them to settle again.

Most household pests leave clues behind, and learning to read droppings, damage, noises and timing will help you decide what you are dealing with and what to do next.
Read the guide →Possibly. Adult carpet beetles are small, round and often mottled, and they gather at windows in spring and summer. If you see them, it is worth checking nearby carpets and wardrobes for larvae, as that is where the damage happens. We can identify them for you.
They can, if there is a source nearby. Larvae favour wool and natural fibres, and they often start at the edges and under heavy furniture where it is dark and undisturbed. Regular vacuuming along the edges helps, and we can inspect if you spot any damage.
Not always. Small items can often be washed hot or frozen, and vacuuming removes many larvae and shed skins. Badly damaged pieces may be beyond saving, but we will tell you what is worth keeping once we have inspected the property and seen the extent of it.
Tell us what you have found and roughly where it is. We will come back to you — or call 01245 327 274 if it is urgent.
