Moths rarely announce themselves. You find a chewed scarf, a thinning patch of rug under the sofa, or little buff-coloured insects drifting out when you open a drawer. We carry out moth control in Harlow for homeowners, tenants, landlords and small businesses, and we begin by identifying exactly which moth is causing the damage.
Harlow is laid out in neighbourhoods with plenty of rented homes, so we often work where a tenant has noticed the problem and a landlord needs it sorted properly. Either way, we explain what we find in plain terms before any treatment starts.

Moth larvae feed on natural fibres: wool, cashmere, silk, felt, fur and the dust and hair that collect in carpet edges. They often arrive on second-hand furniture, a charity-shop coat or a rug that was stored somewhere damp. In a home that changes occupants regularly, an old infestation can sit quietly in a spare wardrobe or under a bed for months before anyone sees damage.
That is why a Harlow tenancy check is worth doing properly. We look for webbing, tiny cases, larvae and moth droppings in wardrobes, carpets and soft furnishings, then work out how far the problem has spread. Sometimes it is one drawer. Sometimes it has crept along a whole bedroom carpet, and the treatment plan in your Harlow home needs to match what is actually there, room by room.

Once we know the source in your Harlow home, we apply a targeted treatment to the infested areas, avoiding food, bedding that is in use and anywhere children or pets sit. We then give you a short list of jobs that make the treatment stick: vacuum carpet edges and wardrobe floors, hot wash anything washable, freeze small woollen items, and bag clean clothes in sealed storage.
Pheromone traps are useful because they show us whether the numbers are falling. A trap that stays empty is good news, and one that keeps catching tells us where to look again. We do not promise a moth-free home forever, but careful treatment together with tidy storage gives you a far better chance of keeping it that way. Where a landlord, agent or neighbour is involved, we can explain the findings in a form that is easy to pass on.
If your trouble is in the kitchen rather than the wardrobe, it is probably pantry moth in flour, rice or cereal, and the answer starts with clearing and cleaning cupboards. We deal with both across Harlow, CM17 to CM20, including flats, houses and commercial units. We also cover Epping and Loughton, so just let us know where the problem is and we will arrange a visit.
We cover towns and villages across Essex. Choose your area to see how moth control works locally.

Clothes moths damage natural fabrics quietly, so by the time holes appear the problem has often been developing for weeks in a dark, undisturbed corner.

Moth larvae thrive on natural fibres left in dark, still places, so protecting wool and carpets comes down to cleanliness, airflow and sensible storage.

Most household pests leave clues behind, and learning to read droppings, damage, noises and timing will help you decide what you are dealing with and what to do next.

Hot washing kills larvae and eggs in anything that can take it, and freezing works for small woollens. But washing alone does not clear the wardrobe, carpets or loft where the moths are breeding, so the clothes can be reinfested if the source is left untreated.
Usually something nearby is feeding them. Look under the bed, behind the wardrobe and along carpet edges for webbing or old woollens in storage. If you keep finding adults, there is almost certainly a breeding spot, and an inspection is the quickest way to find it.
Tell us what you have found and roughly where it is. We will come back to you — or call 01245 327 274 if it is urgent.
